Table mode

1. Mapping Permissions

The first step in the table mode is the mapping of permissions.

Only then can you fill your table to set permissions.

2. Filling Table

The data is inserted here depending on the type of project. In case of “Scan Your resources“, the data is taken over from the initial state with the help of the button “Start filling”. The excel tables can be read in the “Import or create a table” and “Novell-migration“.

Further in all the types of projects it is possible to manually insert rows and change values. Here you must pay attention to the syntax of the field content and the column headers.

permission mapping

After scanning your shares the permission mapping table is displayed, if in the scanned share permissions were found, which deviate from the standard permissions. These permissions can be converted into standard permissions through the mapping table.

Drag & Drop

In Drag & Drop mode the scanned permissions are represented in a directory tree.

The Drag & Drop mode stands out because of the fact that the user- and group-names do not need to be written manually any more. To set permissions, you can search objects like users or groups in the AD, put them in a clipboard, and then draw from there or from anywhere in the current tree to any folder in the new draft, therefore “Drag and Drop”.

1. Create your future directories

There are two possibilities to generate the directories for the future folder structure:

How to Design & Work

Two processes to edit permissions

Since version 3.1, migRaven features the additional Drag & Drop mode for allocating permissions. The “Table Mode” is well known, in which the objects to be permitted are entered in the table. The new mode stands out especially by the fact that the user- and group names do not need to be written any more. One can select objects in the AD, park them in an intermediate repository and from there draw them over from any directory of the initial position to a target directory.

Modify Plus

Modify Plus has become even better!

The ModifyPlus-right prevents the accidental move or deletion of the authorization end point by the user. The new ModifyPlus replaces the version, which was also identified as ModifyPlus. The function of both the versions is same, however the implementation was improved. By using the authorization “Delete sub-folders and files” instead of “Delete” can be waived by the “Deny deletion” for “Only this folder”.

What has also changed is that you need not decide whether you assign Modify-Rights or ModifyPlus-Rights in a project. In case of each directory (authorization end point), you have the option whether the user should get normal modify rights, or whether you want to prevent the fact that the user moves or completely deletes this directory.

Set access rights

migRaven has powerful algorithms, which greatly simplifies the complete process of re-granting the access. These algorithms follow these principles:

  • No interruption in permission inheritance (only in exceptions)
  • Only authorizations in groups
  • Application of the A-G-DL-P principle or a modification depending on configuration
  • List authorizations are automatically set by migRaven
  • Minimum authorizations: There are as many authorizations in the total in the root, as were authorized on the complete path.

Following advantages arise:

  • You must take care of only the authorizations at the authorization end points. -> this is where the real permission is set (e.g. Change or Read)
  • The help authorizations are automatically generated by migRaven. -> All list rights
  • Groups are automatically generated by migRaven and are provided correctly with names.

That result:
you only need to take care of the directories, which are the authorization end points.

Export access right structures as .csv file

1. Export CSV-file

Under the work step “Design & Work” after “Validate” and before “Store”, you can display your read authorization structure in a CSV-file.

After  “Validate” and before “Store”, you can display your output-authorization structure in form of a CSV-file with the button “Export to csv-file”.
