Quickstart migRaven.24/7

In the first migRaven.one version, all components are installed on the same server.
For later versions it is possible to distribute components to different servers or computers.
This is useful if you like the migRavenDatabase on a fast disk of another server wants to outsource.

The migRavenComponents are automatically installed with the installer very user friendly.

If you want to use the Web Client, you must first install Internet Information Services (IIS). It is a prerequisite for the Web Client.

installation of migRaven.one

For the use of the Web Client, the Internet Information Service should be installed first.
Completely automatically then the installation of the migRaven.one components through the installer.
Then a resource scan service has to be created in the migration client.
Some features must be manually enabled or disabled. These are described exactly here.

1. Install Internet Information Services (IIS)

The IIS is only necessary when using the web client.

Prerequisite for the use of the Web client is an installed own IIS.
Ideally, it will be installed where the migRavenDatabase is located.
It provides the link between the Web client and the database and supplies the Web client with the data from the database.

It should be activated before using the installer, otherwise the web client can not be set up by the installer.

The IIS is activated in the Control Panel. Under "Uninstall Programs," "Turn Windows Features On and Off."
enabled Internet Information Services.
There are further settings to the default settings:

Under "Internet Information Services" the "Web Administration Tools",
under "WWW Services" and "Common HTTP Features" we need the "Static Content",
under "WWW Services" and "Application Development Features" the "ASP.NET 4.6" (or higher) and
under "WWW Services" and "Security" the "Windows Authentication".

The OK confirmation will install the IIS

IIS Config

1.1. Windows Server 2008 R2 and ASP.NET 4

For Windows Server 2008 R2 at least .NET Framework 4.6 must be installed.
The prerequisite for this update is the installation of Windows Server 2008 SP1,
otherwise, an error message will appear that the .NET Frameworks 4.6 on this system
not supported

Because ASP.NET 4 is not registered by default in IIS, the registry must be run with the following command line:

% windir% \ Microsoft.NET \ Framework64 \ v4.0.30319 \ aspnet_regiis.exe -ir

The directory name "v4.0.30319" may vary depending on the .NET Framework version.

2. HTTP Activation

HTTP activation must be turned on manually. Without them, the groups are not displayed in the Web Client, for example in AD statistics.

The feature, like the Internet Information Services, must be enabled on the Windows features.

However, in the section ".NET Framework 4.6 Functions" (or higher), then under WCF Services. Here the "HTTP activation" is selected.

3. migRaveninstall

3.1. migRavenInstall_6_0_xxxx.msi

The migRavenInstall_6_0_xxxx.msi installs the on your computer migRavenInstall.exe with an icon on the desktop.
You can also repair (repair) or remove (remove) it by calling the program repeatedly.

3.2. migRavenInstall.exe

With the migRavenInstall.exe will install almost all components automatically on your computer.
Only the ResourceScanService is not installed by the installer, but by the Migration Client.
With a repeated call of the program you can remove all components (uninstall).
With a newer version you can update the components.

3.2.1. Install

The Install installs and starts the listed services in the required order:

No. Step >Description<
1 Database The database is installed and started as a service
2 DB Service The database service controls access to the database.
3 Core service The CoreService controls and coordinates the services.
4 AD Scan Service The AD Scan Service will later scan the domains selected in the Migration Client.
5 migRaven service The migration client is the central program. There can be domains and shares
or directories are scanned and permissions are migrated. It collects
migRaven Data that can be analyzed with the WebClient.
6 License Here you must enter your license key and your e-mail address.
7 migRaven Web You can use the optional Web Client to collect the collected AD and
Evaluate project data.

Prerequisite is an installed Internet Information Services. In this installation, IIS will have a migRavenWebsite created and required settings made.

Installing the components with the migRavenInstaller

The DB Service asks for an input for the executing account.

In general, the same account is used here as for the Resource Scan Service (Domain administrator) to make sure that the storage is correct.

But it should at least be an account with a Local Administrator permission.

Enter this in the format Domain \ username .

3.2.2. Request testkey

With "License" the license key is requested. If you do not have one, you can request a testkey. This will be sent to you within seconds.

KeyeingabeRequest testkey

Copy the key from the email and enter the email address used for registration in the form. Thus, this version becomes valid for the trial period of 21 days and with the restriction that max. 19 permissions can be written enabled.

Do you have no internet access or does the license to a proxy fail?

  • Send us an Email: vertrieb@migraven.com
  • Write the required data here as well: first name, last name. E-mail address
  • We send you Testkey and a config file, which you save under "Program Data / migraven / config".

3.2.3. update

During an update, the msi file is started and executed first. She creates the new components in the installer directory. After that the installer has to be started. The installer of a newer version recognizes the existing components of the previous version and offers you an additional "Update" button. Only when you run this update will the old ones migRaven-Components updated on the machine.

Update
If the installer at startup a migRaven-Vorgängerversion finds, he offers an update button.

3.2.4. Uninstall

Uninstall uninstalls all components installed with the installer, really all.
The license file (mr.cfg) and the contents of the database are also deleted!
Only the web client and the installer remain, which can be uninstalled manually in the system administration.

3.3. Possible installation problems with the installer

WebClient is not installed, WebClient icon is crossed in red.
IIS not installed or not configured correctly. -> Install and configure IIS.

4. For the created "migRaven Web site "turn off kernel-mode authentication

This point is only necessary when using the web client.

The installer creates a page for the Web Client in IIS named "migRaven Website ".

These can be found under Computer Management (start as administrator),
"Services and Applications" and "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager".

Right next to it opens the window "Connections".

We open the tree and find the sites under "migRaven Website ".
A possibly existing "Default Web Site" should be removed.

For the "migRaven Web site ", we need to turn off kernel-mode authentication.

To do this, just remove a check mark. We could not realize that programmatically. Therefore you have to do it manually.

Go to "migRaven Website ".
In the window to the right, we select the "Authentication" icon with a double-click.
We click on the "Windows Authentication" and select the "Advanced Settings" on the right.
With "Enable kernel mode authentication", the tick must be removed,
this turns off kernel mode authentication.

Close OK and Computer Management

5. Remote Services and Firewalls

If you use firewalls on your servers or between them, communication between the services may not be possible. In this case, enter the from migRaven used ports in the affected firewalls please free. For our remote services we use the following ports:

 8999 for the core service
10291 for the Database Service
8099 for the AD scan service and
8077 for the Resource Scan Service
 7687 between DB and DBHost

6. migRaven Install Resource Scan Service Host in Migration Client

The ResourceScanService is a prerequisite for creating projects.
As long as it is not running, the project start buttons (G, R, I) are gray only and can not be started. The corresponding instructions can be found below.

6.1. Prerequisite: The right to log in as a service

You or the specified account must have the right to log on services.
This is set under "Local Security Policy" (start as administrator),
- Security settings
- Local guidelines
- Assign user rights
- Right-click on "Log in as a service".
If you or the account is not in the list, you must add your account (s).

6.2. migRavenInstall ResourceScanServiceHost

The ResourceScanService is the only component that is not installed by the installer, but only in the Migartion Client. After a new installation, however, at least one domain must first be scanned with the AD-Scan.
This ResourceScanService is set up, installed and started in the Migration Client under Configuration, Remote Services, Resource Scan Services.

The following functions are available for this:

New resource service This creates a new ResourceScanService.

"New Resource Scan Service" opens a window in which the computer name (no IP address, since the export path is machine-oriented and can not work with an IP address) on which the service is to run is entered becomes.

More than one Resource Scan Service on one computer is not possible.
(enter the computer name as FQDN)
The port 8077 can be changed. But that should only be done if the port has already been assigned elsewhere.
This is followed by your administrator account (with domain) for the computer and the password.

After successful validation, the service will be installed and started with the "Install" and "Start" action buttons.
In detail you will find the instructions here.

The following actions are required to install, update, or remove the service:

6.3. migRavenSet up ResourceScanServiceHost on the computer of another domain

You can also set up Resource Scan Services on machines from other domains.
To do this, enter your account in the other domain as the domain administrator.
When you create the service in the migration client, you enter your account with domain in the user account.
The service must then be installed and started.
You can control success in the service management of the target computer.

6.4. Possible problems with migRavenResource Scan Service Host

The service migRavenResourceScanServiceHost can not be started.
The specified account must have the right to log on services. This service will not be logged in with the local system account, but with the account specified during setup. You must enter this account in the "Local Security Policy" for "Log on as a service".

7. Install additional AD Scan Service

When installing migRaven.one, an AD Scan Service has already been installed on the current computer. This is migRaven able to work.

Other AD Scan Services can also be installed. It may be useful to create the AD Scan Service there to scan other domains on computers in these domains.

To do this, enter your account in the other domain as the domain administrator.

Additional AD Scan Services are set up in the Migration Client under Configuration, Remote Services, Active Directory Scan Services. It is done with the button "New AD Scan Service". If it is dimmed so that you can not create a new service, check if there is a started service installation under "AD Scan Services" or "Resource Scan Services." You must first delete these.

When creating the service in the migration client, remove the "Use local account" option and enter your account with domain in the user account.
The service must then be installed and started.

You can control success in the service management of the target computer.

If you now go to the "Active Directory Import and Statistics" list in the Migration Client and want to scan ADs, this new computer will also be displayed in the calculator list. You can choose which AD Scan service you want to use for the AD Scan.
